Practical creative youth apprenticeships

BArt pairs young Barberton residents with experienced local artisans. Participants gain hands-on trade disciplines, tool proficiency, and confidence through tangible making at shared communal workshop benches.

Independent vocational practice

Learners start with tool maintenance, timber selection, and workshop etiquette under direct mentor supervision, building respect for tools and working space.

Apprentices work collaboratively on verified neighborhood installations and open-air public art, translating personal drawings into large-scale civic pride across Barberton.

Youth source scrap timber, stone offcuts, and discarded metals, learning to evaluate raw structural integrity and reshape cast-off regional materials into functional crafts.

Senior youth develop individual portfolios, learn realistic piece-costing techniques, and manage open studio tables to prepare for self-directed regional creative livelihoods.

Workshop standard

Practical trade skills, working hands

We replace detached classroom theory with sawdust, welding sparks, and working benches. Every young person in our program leaves with completed objects they built with their own hands.

Connect with workshop convenors

We welcome enquiries from parents, secondary educators, and young residents wanting a studio seat for weekend foundation sessions.
